Bobby Dowler collects second-hand paintings and wood-stretcher-frame-devices. He deconstructs the paintings with his hands, tools and utilises paint, staples and glue, in order to create entirely new, mutated ‘painting-objects’. He describes his work as “...an ongoing experiential-research-process”. Each painting-on-canvas is separated from its original structure and consequently re-worked, built up and broken down. Various cutting and painterly techniques are employed throughout. Finally, after a protracted struggle, something unexpected happens and this gives the artist an intuitive idea as to what needs to be done in order to guide a work towards its final completion.

Bobby Dowler studied Film Studies in Hampshire, England and Fine Art in Salzburg, Austria and in London, England. His work has been included in several group exhibitions in Europe and America; Bold Tendencies, London, UK, 2007, 2008 and 2009; New Art Center, Roche Court, Hampshire, UK, 2009 and 2010; Galerie Chez Mohammed, Mexico City, Mexico, 2017 and 2019; Shoot the Lobster, NYC, New York, USA, 2013; Fokidos, Athens, GR, 2013. He co-founded Lynhurst Way exhibitions in his then home in 2006 which Hannah Barry Gallery in 2008 and Bold Tendencies in 2007 both grew out from in Peckham, South-East London, England. He co-founded Fokidos in Athens, Greece in 2012. He has co-organised many large group exhibitions in art galleries in several different cities including London, New York City, Paris, Athens and St.Moritz.
