Ferreira Gullar

Ferreira Gullar, whose real name was José Ribamar Ferreira, was a Brazilian writer, poet and art critic who was born on 10 September 1930 in São Luís, in the state of Maranhão, and died on 4 December 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. He was one of the leading figures in contemporary Brazilian literature, renowned for his committed and innovative poetry as well as his contributions to literary theory and art criticism. Gullar was also a key player in the cultural movement known as 'Neo-Concretismo' in Brazil, which revolutionised the visual arts and poetry in the 1950s and 1960s. His work, both poetic and critical, remains an important reference point in the Brazilian and international cultural landscape.
