Judith Walgenbach

Judith Walgenbach

Judith Walgenbach was born on 08/04/970 in Herten/Westfalen, Germany
Lives and works in Hamburg, Germany

Judith Walgenbach was born in Herten/NRW in the middle of Germany and is nowadays working as an artist of the Fine Arts in Hamburg. Her work includes conceptual designs, installations, sculptures, drawings, digital images, and social art projects.
These artworks have their own individual dignity, but don´t stay only in an additive way side by side. They are linked in many ways with each other like, for instance: Based on conceptual designs installations are realized, sculptures created, photographed and inserted into antique images with the intention of >Creating History< by transplantations from the present to the past.
This strategy is grounded on the self-developed approach > Epistemological ScienceArt " which is directed to an integration of art, science and everyday life. To justify this approach supplementary also scientifically, a cooperation exists since 1989 with the international and intercultural Science Net > Interdisciplinary Self-System Design INSYDE<, founded (J.W. is a co-founder) by researchers of the interdisciplinary Leibniz-Institute for Science Education IPN at the University of Kiel in cooperation with artists and scientists of Europe and Latin America.
The created artworks were presented among others in international exhibitions for the integration of Science and Art. Artworks in this field thematise often only certain aspects of the sciences like sampling or lecturing . In contrast, the approach >Epistemological ScienceArt< shows an integrative unfolding of epistemic-aesthetical objects such as the >Biomass Yeath Dough< by bringing its into a tension full interaction with complementary categories like order~chaos, part~whole, autopoiesis~allopoiesis, etc. The viewer can trace how systems are generated with these heuristic means . He should be stimulated to participate with his research to his own heuristics for the >Creation of the New<. Therefore, the ultimate and central objective of the approach >Epistemological ScienceArt< is >Creating Creators< by making each one to a researcher of his own means for the design of himself and the world. This is following the programmatic statement of Joseph BEUYS >Each one is an artist<. Therefore, artworks on the base of the approach >Epistemological ScienceArt> flow ultimately into social art projects.
Judith Walgenbach is working as an artist of Free Arts in Hamburg. Her work includes conceptual designs, installations, sculptures, drawings, digital images, and social art projects.
These artworks have their own individual dignity, but are also integrated: (a) by emerging out of an integrative work process and (b) by the self-developed approach > Epistemological ScienceArt " which is directed to an integration of art, science and everyday life. This approach is complementing autonomously from the side of the Arts the more scientific approach > Interdisciplinary Self-System Design INSYDE< established in 1989 by researchers of the Leibniz-Institute for Science Education IPN at the University of Kiel in cooperation with artists and scientists from Europe and Latin America. Kiel J.W. was one of the co-founders.
A constituent of the interdisciplinary approach is to design experimental systems with >epistemic objects< (s. REICHLE, RHEINBERGER, MIETINNEN & VIRKUNNEN, etc.). Rooted in this research line epistemo-logical objects are designed as research objects - so far mainly the >Biomass Yeast Dough< and the >Fluid System Vortex Street< - for the construction not only of >knowledge<, but also of >knowledge about knowledge< and ultimately of >Knowledge about myself as a constructor of knowledge< .
With this a contribution shall be given to a >Heuristic Turn< which is seen as a logical consequence of the development from KANTs >Mentalistic Turn< over RORERTYs >Linguistic Turn< to an >Imagic (FELLMANN) /Iconic (BOEHM)/Pictural (MITCHEL) Turn<. The >Heuristic Turn< is not only describing new trends in modern research, but focuses it on the system designer and his means for the >Creation of the New<.
Therefore, the central and ultimate objective of the approach >Epistemological ScienceArt< is >Creating Creators< by making each one to a researcher on his own heuristic means for the design of himself and the world. This is following the programmatic statement of Joseph BEUYS >Each one is an artist<. Artworks on the base of the approach >Epistemological ScienceArt> flow ultimately into projects of the Social Arts.
The artworks of Judith Walgenbach are sitting between the two chairs >Science< and >Arts<. They present engaged suggestions for bridging the >Two Cultures< (C.P.SNOW). The success and acceptance depend not only from the quality of her work, but also from the openness and flexibility of the citizens who have perhaps to overcome deep traumatic experiences with one of the two sides, Arts or Sciences , and on these based prejudices and self-doubts. For this the playfulness, easiness and humor in the artwork of Judith Walgenbach can be an important support.
