Marc Scozzai & Saskia Raux
Biography
Saskia Raux was born in France in 1981 and Marc Scozzai was born in Luxembourg in 1980. They currently live and work in Luxembourg.
Both studied at the graduate school of Art in Nancy: Marc specializing in art and Saskia in visual communication. They have collaborated together on several projects since 2003.
Presentation
We are mainly interested in the transcription and in the perception of the notion of landscape by the medium of video. More than an object for representation, the landscape is indossociably connected to the body and to the experience, and honorable by definition the notion of time.
In the video installation "single step", fruit of our first collaboration, the silhouette of a walker, thrown on the ground, becomes a screen on which appear, in the course of its wandering, various grounds and environments. It is the man who reveals the "landscape" by its presence and its dumping in the environment.
If the technical process used here was a simple overexposure, we resort afterward to treatments of more complex video images. In passing little by little of the landscape as working theme in the landscape as the workplace, videos question the perceptive reality and the truthfulness of the image and try to question our report in the images in movements. The thrown image which seems directly extracted from the reality can she be considered as a composition, quite as a painted picture where the nature is retranscribed under forms of tasks of colors on a painting?
Elements of our daily environment are got on band(strip) and their characteristics diverted : in "Cotra" tracks drawn through the sky by the trainées of condensation of planes consist between them up to the final bouquet of a fireworks in broad daylight. This show eemingly so soft is transformed as we recreate the link with the reality, in a vision of the sublime where fascination and fear of the violence mix.
