Fabienne Lasserre

Vit et travaille à Brooklyn

Fragments et suspensions évoquent inconfort et naïveté dans l'œuvre de Lasserre. La matérialité étant d'importance capitale pour l'artiste, Lasserre utilise la laine, le lin, le feutre et le papier afin d'accomplir une surface quasiment grotesque mais complexe à la fois. Un sens de finalité ou de conclusion n'est pas apparent et les œuvres semblent exister dans un espace entre deux. Bandages, morceaux ajoutés et bulbes protubérants font écho à la faiblesse et un certain sens d'imperfection-mais cela en est un qui est accompli grâce à une maitrise remarquable de l'équilibre. Des résultats imprévus sont possibles à travers la transformation matérielle et des formes maladroites surprennent le spectateur avec leur élégance qui existe dans les délicats détails peints et l'attention portée à la couleur.

Lasserre est titulaire d'un baccalauréat en beaux-arts de l'université Concordia (Montreal) et d'une maîtrise en Beaux Arts de Columbia University (New York). Elle a présenté ses œuvres à des nombreuses occasions lors d'expositions individuelles à New York, à Miami, ainsi qu'à Toronto, à Montréal et à Québec. Elle a également participé à un grand nombre d'expositions collectives au niveau international, que ce soit à New York, Philadelphia; à Oxaca, au Mexique; à Santiago, au Chili; à Berlin et Kassel ou à Londres. Recemment, son travail a été inclus dans la Triennale Québécoise au Musée d'Art Contemporain de Montréal. L'artiste est récipiendaire de résidences telles la résidence du Vermont Studio Center et à l'Institution Dieu Donné (New York) ainsi que de bourses prestigieuses telles celles du Conseil des Arts du Canada. En 2013, son travail ferait partie du 43ième Salon National des Artistes à Medellin en Colombie et de l'exposition de groupe Outside the Lines au Musée d'art contemporain de Houston. Ses oeuvres récentes étaient présentes dans des expositions de groupe et particulières à Brooklyn et New York respectivement au courant le l'année 2013. En 2015, l'artiste a présenté Les Approches, sa première exposition solo à Parisian Laundry. Lasserre est actuellement professeure au département de peinture du Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore).
