Amelia Saddington lives and works in New York, received a BA from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and an MFA from Columbia University in New York. Recent exhibitions include “A.S. Awkward Silence” at Night Gallery, Los Angeles and “Ok Wormhole” at No More Games in Brooklyn. Her solo music project called Open Topic can be heard at http://www.bureau.audio/ where it was featured in January of 2018.

Amelia Saddington’s paintings combine painterly gesture with photographic imagery. Her work deals with perception and representation of images. Amelia Saddington approaches painting as an expansive format capable of combining a variety of approaches and image types. In her work, plans are introduced in anticipation of inevitable digressions. Images are collaged, framed and reframed into various compositional scenarios, traces of expressive painterly evidence sit adjacent to the artist’s photographic documents, while subjective/autobiographical symbols interact with other generic visual information. Her work actively engages the losses and gains intrinsic to the precarious act of translating an intended message into visual signs.
