Lander Burton’s oil paintings depict strange, everyday glowy scenes of landscape, still-life, and abstraction. As they are extensively layered; initial drawings erased and hidden, they slowly reemerge with new life. They are simultaneously landscapes and interiors: the contents of a particular room and its aura. Beyond representation, her paintings are apparitions of elusive subjects. Her body of work encompasses an ongoing surreal and diaristic narrative. Burton received her BFA from the Cooper Union and her MFA from Bard College.
