Samira Abbassy est née à Ahwaz, en Iran, en 1965 et a déménagé à Londres, au Royaume-Uni, lorsqu'elle était enfant. Après avoir été diplômée du Canterbury College of Art, elle a commencé à exposer à Londres. Elle s'installé à New York en 1998, où elle participe à la création de la Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts et de l'EFA Studio Center.
Son travail a été présenté dans des expositions du Metropolitan et du British Museum et fait partie de collections privées et publiques du monde entier, notamment du Metropolitan Museum, du British Museum, de la British Government Art Collection, de la Grey Art Gallery de NYU, de la Burger Collection, de la Donald Collection Rubin (Rubin Museum, NY), Farjaam Collection, Dubaï, Los Angeles County Museum et Afkhami Collection.
Au cours des trente ans de carrière d'Abbassy, son travail a fait l'objet de vingt expositions personnelles en galerie à Londres, Dubaï et New York.
