Yevgeniya Baras (née à Syzran, ex-Union soviétique) est une artiste new-yorkaise. Baras est titulaire d'une licence en psychologie et beaux-arts et d'une maîtrise en éducation de l'Université de Pennsylvanie (2003) et d'une maîtrise en peinture et dessin de la School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2007).

Baras a exposé son travail dans des galeries telles que White Columns (New York, NY); Nicelle Beauchene (New York, NY); Galerie Reyes Finn (Détroit, MI); Gavin Brown Enterprise (New York, NY); Galerie Inman (Houston, Texas); Mother Gallery (New York, NY); Sperone Westwater Gallery (New York, NY); Thomas Erben Gallery (New York, NY) The Pit (Los Angeles, Californie); ainsi qu'à l'international, notamment NBB Gallery (Berlin, Allemagne); Galerie Julien Cadet (Paris, France); Station Gallery (Sydney, Australie). Elle est représentée par The Landing (Los Angeles, CA) et Sargent's Daughters (New York, NY).

Les peintures de Baras prennent forme à travers un processus de superposition et d'accumulation, combinant des supports à l'huile avec divers matériaux trouvés et non conventionnels. Les objets qui en résultent oscillent entre peinture et relief sculptural, avec des couches qui se prolongent fréquemment sur les côtés et les supports de la toile, refusant toute frontière définitive. Au sein de ces compositions stratifiées, Baras crée des topographies symboliques qui abordent les idées de langue, de migration et de traduction. La richesse matérielle de l'œuvre sert à générer des abstractions codées et profondément personnelles.

Yevgeniya est récipiendaire de la bourse Pollock-Krasner en 2023 et 2018. Baras a été nommé Senior Fulbright Scholar pour 2022/2023. Elle a été récipiendaire de la New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship en 2021 et de la Guggenheim Fellowship en 2019. Baras a été sélectionnée pour la Chinati Foundation Residency en 2018 et la Yaddo Residency en 2017. Elle a reçu le prix Artadia et a été sélectionnée pour le Sharpe -Walentas Studio Program et la résidence MacDowell Colony en 2015. En 2014, elle a été nommée lauréate du Emerging Artist Prize de la Rema Hort Mann Foundation. Son travail a été évalué dans le New York Times, LA Times, ArtForum, The New York Review of Books et Art in America.

Baras a co-fondé et co-organisé la Regina Rex Gallery dans le Lower East Side de New York (2010-2018).
