Alain Biltereyst's abstractions (born in 1965, lives and works in Brussels) draw their source from the visual language of the contemporary urban environment: signage, typography, logos, commercial graphics, and design elements that shape our daily experience without always commanding our attention. Extracting these forms from the visual flow of the city, the artist removes them from their original function and transforms them into autonomous compositions in which colour, rhythm, and structure become the true subjects of the work.

Through a process of selection, simplification, and recomposition, Biltereyst reveals the aesthetic potential of these ordinary motifs while emphasizing their connection to the history of geometric abstraction. His work thus maintains an ongoing dialogue with modernist avant-gardes and the principles of Neo-Constructivism, while also examining how these forms have been absorbed and disseminated through popular visual culture and commercial applications.

Sometimes executed on small panels whose scale enhances both their precious quality and object-like presence, his paintings invite sustained attention to materiality, surface, and chromatic subtlety. Often presented in series, they function as elements of a visual vocabulary in constant recomposition, each work finding its meaning through the relationships it establishes with the others.

Balancing a sensitive catalogue of the contemporary visual landscape with a reactivation of the legacies of historical abstraction, Biltereyst's practice extends beyond mere formal reference. Rooted in reality yet reaching toward the universal, his painting interrogates the circulation of forms across time, from modernist utopias to the everyday signs that now constitute our visual environment.
