AURÉLIE PÉTREL

POP-UP GENEVA

Presentation

On August 26, 27, and 28, 2026, Ceysson & Bénétière presents in Geneva a new Pop-Up format dedicated to the ongoing research of visual artist Aurélie Pétrel (born in 1980). The exhibition brings together and dialogues a new photographic series created at an altitude of 1,300 meters in Romme, alongside a selection of recent works. These pieces reflect a work in progress, where the image is built, shifted, and transformed, staying true to a practice that views photography as a medium in constant evolution.

Produced in a mid-mountain environment, this new series takes shape from an observation point overlooking the Geneva Lake. The Môle mountain emerges as a familiar presence, a landmark situated between the artist’s home territory and the city of Geneva. An iconic peak of the region, it has long featured in representations of the local landscape—from Konrad Witz’s The Miraculous Draught of Fishes to the early scientific observations of Horace-Bénédict de Saussure. Pétrel chooses the other side, the one invisible from the bay, turning the landscape less into a subject and more into a space of experience and connection. This research was made possible thanks to the hospitality of Le Nouveau Prieuré, which the artist warmly acknowledges.

This exhibition is shaped by the ideas of circulation, community, and movement. The images extend a long-standing reflection on the conditions of form emergence and the multiple states of the image. How does an experience settle into a photograph? How does movement become a material for work? Together, these pieces offer a glimpse into the early stages of a larger, ongoing body of work.
