Présentation
Clédia Fourniau holds a BTS in Space Design from ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres and is a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Her work explores the possibilities of painting and representation, questioning the conditions under which an image is created, perceived, and received. Driven by a constant spirit of experimentation, she mixes various materials and mediums—dry pigment, oil, mica, acrylic, resin, watercolor, pencil, or marker—on linen canvases or colored textiles, whether primed or raw. The application of glossy resin in specific areas creates a self-reflexive dialogue between image and reality, drawing the surrounding space and the viewers themselves into the painting’s field. Her work plays with the exhibition format, challenging the placement and physical engagement of the audience.
For Clédia Fourniau, the gesture is deceptively impulsive and intentionally citational. It remains fundamentally tied to process and material, rooted in a practice of constant re-evaluation that unfolds day after day in the studio, within a stretched and unpredictable temporality. At the intersection of a minimalist inquiry into color and form and a gestural practice inherited from Expressionism, she blends multiple visual regimes and sources. By incorporating signs, pseudo-characters, and cryptic symbols, she creates a deliberate sense of displacement—an attempt to short-circuit the perceived authority of the artistic gesture.
