Présentation

Peter Halley emerged in the mid-1980s as a central figure of the Neo-Geo movement.

His paintings are instantly recognizable for their use of synthetic Day-Glo colors and industrial Roll-a-Tex textures. Halley’s work operates through a recurring visual vocabulary of “cells,” “prisons,” and “conduits.” Far from being mere formal exercises, these shapes serve as diagrams of contemporary existence: the "cells" evoke compartmentalized social and architectural spaces, while a complex network of "conduits" represents the invisible flow of communication, electricity, and data. Deeply influenced by postmodern theorists such as Michel Foucault and Jean Baudrillard, Halley’s practice suggests that the geometric order of our world is a system of connectivity and control. Beyond his studio practice, Halley is also a noted theorist, further cementing his role as a critical observer of contemporary culture.
